Amethyst Collar DIY

DIY Amethyst Collar

This amethyst collar is a project I’ve had in mind for ages!
Inspired by Assad Mounser’s 'Rocks Off' collar, I put this together using a plain gold-coloured choker I bought on a trip to Bluewater back in May and some of the amethyst chips that I wrote about previously.

I love Assad Mounser's designs. If I had lots of money to spend on awesome jewellery, it would be gone in seconds on this brand :)

Essentially my choker was easy to put together, but there were a couple of times when I could have done with an extra hand or two!

Read on for a tutorial!

amethyst necklace how to

You’ll need:
Metal choker (mine was £7.99 at H&M)
Small pieces of amethyst
Scissors or similar sharp tool
Strong glue (I used E6000)
Scrap paper and pen

DIY jewellery

1. Draw around the choker onto the scrap paper.

2. Use the shape to lay out the amethyst chips in the design you want.

3. This is a tip my Dad taught me: use scissors or another sharp tool to scratch up the part of the choker that you want to glue the crystals to. This gives a better surface for bonding. :)

4. Adhere the amethyst pieces to the choker in the pattern laid out on the paper. Glue a little at a time. (This is the part where I could have used an extra pair of hands!)

5. Leave to dry for the time specified in the instructions that came with the glue. I propped my choker up until I was completely sure it had dried, because I was a little paranoid that the stones would fall off!

I customised this little heart-shaped brooch (originally a charity brooch) using the same method. The brooch was a little easier!
