Marvellous Monday #18

Monday once again, and the theme for this week's Marvellous Monday is You're Never Too Old or alternatively, Fabulous Pensioners.

I've seen this picture countless times and it never fails to make me smile!

I will forever maintain that you can never be too old to enjoy the swings. Do you ever go to the play area and want to run around all the swings, slides, roundabouts and see-saws? Next time, indulge ;)

This is my grandad. He was always very silly and full of jokes, always up for a laugh and an all-round lovely person. So he totally deserves to go here :)

Old ladies having fun with Hopscotch. And why not!

Finally, here's a poem by Jenny Joseph. My mother had a friend who was in her eighties and this was her favourite poem!

Warning
by Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

This poem reminds me of my nan, as she is a bit of a 'recycled teenager' and, just like grandad, up for a laugh!

Here she is, with some 99p Shop bargains! Only a few years ago did she cut down a pear tree because it wasn't giving fruit anymore, chop up a chest of drawers she wanted taken to the tip, and demolish a brick conservatory with a 16lb sledgehammer! My nan is cool. :D

Do you have an inspirational older person in your life?
Or are you 'of a certain age' and determined to 'grow old disgracefully'? (I know a few people like this!)

This post is dedicated to YOU having a Marvellous Monday!

P.S. Can I ask for some feedback? What do you think of Pinterest's embed pin widget, as I've used today? Is it good, or did you prefer how embeds worked before?

  1. Ha ha,...how fun and inspiring. I love that poem SO much!! About the pins,....it doesn't matter to me either way, both are great. Happy Monday.

  2. Hello!! :)

(As for the pin embed thing, I like it :). The only thing that*s "bothering" me a bit is that the images are a little small?)

My granny* is like this, too. She always seems to be on trips somewhere or enjoying her time, and even though she is 74 now, she still somehow kept herself her childlike "behavior". :) And my mum* will be like this, I am very sure. :D

And I myself ... I hope I will follow in these steps :). After all, "The people who matter won*t care", right?

Your granddad* & nanny* sound awesome, too!! :)
