For this week’s Pinning Inspiration, I want to step away from focusing on the inspirational achievements of one person.
Today’s theme is a little closer to home: statement necklaces.
I’ve seen the phrase ‘statement necklace’ bandied about a lot, though am sometimes disappointed by what is deemed to be a ‘statement’ these days. Though I'd be more than happy with the above, by Doro Soucy at Lux Vixens Fashion! Check out her Etsy store for some truly fantastic pieces.
For me, a statement necklace means a piece of jewellery that will make people stare and say ‘Wow!’

Both the high street and the internet have a huge selection
of necklaces designed to make a bold addition to your outfit. (The above necklace is from the high street chain Accessorize.)
Whether worn with a simple ‘purist’ ensemble or something
heavily flamboyant, a statement necklace is a fantastic finishing piece. I don't know where the above necklace/necklaces came from, but don't they make a fantastic addition to the dress?
Sometimes jewellery can inspire - or be inspired by! - something else: embellished
shoes or a photo frame, curtain ties, lampshades or works of art. Above necklace by Giselle Courtney (if this isn't a statement, I don't know what is.)
I don’t think a statement necklace necessarily has to be
huge. It simply needs to stand out. This one is from Galibardy, a wicked-cool
label here in the UK where you can get kitsch, unusual and sometimes downright strange jewellery for a
reasonable price. Hurrah!
Of course, huge necklaces are brilliant statement-makers
too! I am a massive fan of Assad Mounser’s pieces as they are
unusual--certainly something people will notice. (I’ll likely write more about
this designer at a later date!)
Whether oodles of charms or hundreds of beads are your
thing, there are plenty of statement necklaces out there to choose from.
Alternatively, layer a bunch of simpler necklaces for a fuller,
funky look. (This is my current favourite thing to do!)
Or you can make your own, inspired by other necklaces (knockoffs are great when you don’t have the cash for the original!) or things you see. The Downton Abbey-inspired necklace above was created by Carmi Cimicata at Resin Crafts.
